Tanker 4

Unit : Tanker 4
Year : 1999
Model : Spartan/General

Tanker 4 is responsible for bringing water to the areas of the district that are not protected by fire hydrants.

This apparatus can act as an engine because it is equipped with a 1500 gallon per minute Waterous Pump, however, what makes this a tanker is it carries 2000 gallons of water in the tank. Along with water, the tanker carries 60 gallons of Class B firefighting foam.

Westfield 4 is equipped with three large discharges to quickly dump the water from the apparatus to portable tanks which are used in tanker shuttle operations. These discharges, commonly referred to a dumps, are located on the driver’s side, passenger side, and rear of the vehicle.

The tanker carries a portable dump tank which has a maximum capacity of 2500 gallons of water. This is used in tanker shuttle operations in which large amounts of water are trucked in, or shuttled, from the source and dumped into these tanks. Once the water is dumped, another fire engine drafts the water out of the tanks and supplies the hand lines in operation.

Westfield 4 is powered by a 475 HP Detroit Diesel with an Allison Automatic Transmission

Westfield Fire Dept

Around 11:15 this morning the Westfield Fire Department was alerted to the reported structure fire in Northwoods east apartments on Town Colony dr. Westfield Engine 2 and Westfield Ladder 6 staffed by the department's day crew and volunteers responded to the location. Upon arrival first due in truck Westfield 2 found fire through the roof and command requested a 2nd alarm. Westfield 2 established its own water supply and began hitting the fire with the deck gun and stretched a handline to begin a aggressive interior attack on the fire. Middletown E3 established a secondary water supply and stretched a 2nd handline on the fire. Westfield 6 and South District T34 set up to establish master stream and all crews were evacuated from the building due to the roof starting to collapse. SFD T43 and W6 began a defensive attack with master stream operations. T34 identified a party in distress on the third floor of the building and command had crews from MFD and WFD enter the structure and made multiple successful rescues of people and pets throughout the building. Well dad has to say the job by command my son Jason did a great job commanding the fire scene he was steady and calm through out very proud of him . And it was a great stop by all

My deepest and most heartfelt thank you for saving these two best friends: mine and my neighbor’s dogs. We are feeling very lucky tonight and incredibly grateful to you all.

Notice a few things in the first pic: 1) W2 secured its own water source (see the 5” line) 2) Water was on the fire immediately upon arrival (See water flowing into the fire from the deck gun) 3) The fire was extended to each stairwell and was stopped there thanks to great operations and fire stops in the attic. Great work!!

Nice work! Glad everyone made it back home, from Cromwell FD Indiana
