The City of Middletown opted to defer taxes, charges, and assessments for 90 days in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order 7S and 7W. As a special taxing district within the City of Middletown (as defined in the Governor’s Executive Order 7W), Westfield Fire District shall offer the same program.
Motor Vehicle, Personal Property and non-escrowed Real Estate shall be deferred by three (3) months from the date that such tax became due and payable. The last day to pay without penalty is October 1, 2020. If the taxpayer fails to make payments as noted in this section, all interest, fees, and penalties will be applied to all unpaid portions retroactive to the original due date of July 1, 2020.
There are TWO, IMPORTANT EXCEPTIONS to the Deferment Program:
- Financial Institutions and Mortgage Servicers that hold property tax payments in ESCROW on behalf of the borrower are NOT part of the Deferment Program and the last day to pay without penalty is August 3, 2020.
- LANDLORDS are not eligible for the Deferment Program and must apply NO LATER THAN July 1, 2020 for inclusion in the Deferment Program. Application link: LANDLORD DEFERRAL APPLICATION
Please note: The Deferment Program does not include Taxes, charges or assessments that are already past due, as this is not an amnesty or waiver of interest or other charges on delinquent taxes.
