It is with a heavy heart that the Westfield Fire District announces the passing of Commissioner Leo Zieller on May 7, 2020. Leo dedicated 40+ years to the District serving on the Board of Fire Commission, for many years in the role of Secretary and serving on countless sub-committees, he was an active member right up until his passing. Leo had deep family ties to the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department starting with his youngest son Bob who is now a life member, his grandson Bill Balch as the current Fire Chief as well as two of his great grandchildren, Brenden and Amanda Balch as active Firefighter/EMS members. Leo, a life-long Middletown resident was a photographer by trade owning studios in Middletown & Rutland, VT. He was a long-standing member serving on the Emergency Management Division which involves the communication needs of the entire City of Middletown and he was a lifelong Ham Radio operator. Please keep his wife Joan of 63 years, his children, grandchildren & great grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers. Leo will long be remembered for his whit, cheerful disposition, kindness & generosity towards others. He will be sorely missed by all.
